Controlled In-Person MTB Events
How DirtRacer Works
DirtRacer helps approved MTB clubs configure named, in-person events and lets each rider use their own Strava account to calculate a private personal result.
1. The Club Configures the Event
An approved organiser defines the event location, event window, rider categories and the Strava segments used as stages. Public event pages show this configuration but do not show participant identities, efforts, times or standings.
2. The Rider Joins and Chooses Their Access
Each rider selects a category, reviews the event-specific privacy notices and connects their own Strava account through OAuth.
- DirtRacer requests
read, activity:readby default. - The rider may optionally allow activities marked “Only You”, which requires
activity:read_all. - The broader private-activity permission is not requested unless the rider explicitly selects it.
3. DirtRacer Processes Only the Named Event
DirtRacer checks rider-authorised activities only for the configured event window and matches eligible segment efforts to the listed stages. It does not scrape Strava pages, public leaderboards or unrelated rider history.
4. Each Athlete Sees Only Their Own Result
The connected athlete can privately view their own calculated stage times, total event time and completion status. DirtRacer does not publish public leaderboards, participant-to-participant comparisons or public series standings under the current model.
Organiser multi-rider result access, exports and result distribution remain disabled unless Strava approves that exact restricted workflow in writing.
5. Privacy Requests and Retention
Riders can disconnect through Strava, submit an access, correction, withdrawal or deletion request, and receive written completion confirmation after a verified deletion. Raw cached payloads are automatically redacted after the event retention window.
Support Local Trails
Events can also invite optional trail-support pledges. Public trail-impact totals are separate from Strava-derived rider results and do not expose athlete activity information.
